Hardest CSRD Pillar

Scope 3 Emissions Inventory & Supply Chain Mapping

Scope 3 is universally cited as the hardest CSRD pillar — covering everything from purchased goods to logistics to how your customers use your products. We map ESG and carbon hotspots across your tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers, then build a risk-tiered improvement plan defensible in a CSRD value-chain disclosure or OEM cascade audit.

Scope 3 is required under CSRD ESRS E1 for companies subject to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. Under the post-Omnibus rules, large companies (500+ employees, €50M+ turnover or €25M+ balance sheet) remain in scope for first reporting year FY2025 (reports due 2026). Upstream supply-chain data is also what EU buyers increasingly demand even outside formal CSRD obligations.

Frequently asked questions

What are Scope 3 emissions?

Scope 3 emissions are all indirect greenhouse gas emissions in a company's value chain — both upstream (purchased goods, logistics, business travel) and downstream (use of sold products, end-of-life treatment). They typically represent 70–90% of a manufacturer's total carbon footprint and are the primary focus of CSRD's ESRS E1 requirements.

Which Scope 3 categories must be reported under CSRD?

Under CSRD/ESRS E1, companies must report all material Scope 3 categories. For manufacturers the most material categories are typically Category 1 (purchased goods and services), Category 4 (upstream transportation), Category 11 (use of sold products), and Category 12 (end-of-life treatment). A double materiality assessment determines which categories require disclosure.

How many suppliers do you cover?

Our standard engagement covers up to 25 suppliers per cycle — the tier-1 suppliers representing the highest spend and risk concentration, plus selected tier-2 suppliers where hotspot analysis identifies material upstream impacts. Additional supplier cycles can be added.

Is Scope 3 data required for CBAM?

CBAM focuses on Scope 1 direct emissions and Scope 2 electricity emissions for the five covered sectors. Scope 3 is not required for CBAM declarations. However, EU importers increasingly request Scope 3 data as part of their own CSRD value-chain disclosure requirements.

How much does a Scope 3 inventory cost?

Our Supply Chain & Scope-3 Mapping engagement starts at €6,500, covering a supplier ESG risk heat map, 25 supplier scorecards, tier-1 hotspot remediation roadmap, procurement policy update and a quarterly tracker template. Typical delivery is 8–10 weeks. A free scoping call confirms the fixed-price quote before any commitment.
