🎯

Goal & Scope Definition

Functional unit, system boundary (cradle-to-gate or cradle-to-grave), cut-off rules, data quality requirements and intended audience — all documented per ISO 14040 Section 5 before any data collection begins.

🗄️

LCI Dataset (Primary + Secondary)

Life Cycle Inventory combining primary data you collect from your manufacturing process with secondary data from ecoinvent, GaBi or equivalent background databases — with source provenance documented for every flow.

📉

LCIA Across 6+ Impact Categories

Life Cycle Impact Assessment covering Global Warming Potential (GWP100), Acidification, Eutrophication, Photochemical Ozone Creation, Water Use, and Resource Depletion — using characterisation factors from CML, ReCiPe or EN 15804 as appropriate.

📋

ISO 14044 Conformant Report

A complete, peer-reviewable LCA report conforming to ISO 14044 documentation requirements — with goal and scope, LCI data tables, LCIA results, uncertainty discussion, and interpretation chapter. Suitable for EPD submission or internal carbon accounting.

🔬

Hotspot Analysis & Redesign Brief

A hotspot analysis identifying the life cycle stages and materials driving the highest environmental burden, followed by a prioritised redesign brief — specific interventions with estimated impact reduction potential.

Scope & investment

EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) demand is growing in construction (LEED/BREEAM scoring), packaging (EU Packaging Regulation) and electronics. A completed LCA is also the source data for Digital Product Passport carbon footprint attributes, mandatory under the EU Battery Regulation from 2026 and ESPR textile DPP from 2030.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?

A Life Cycle Assessment is a systematic analysis of the environmental impacts of a product across its entire life cycle — from raw material extraction through manufacturing, distribution, use, and end-of-life disposal. Conducted under ISO 14040/44, an LCA quantifies impacts across multiple environmental categories including climate change (GWP100), acidification, eutrophication, water use and resource depletion.

What is the difference between cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave?

Cradle-to-gate covers raw material extraction through manufacturing to the factory gate — excluding distribution, use and end-of-life. It's the scope used for most EPDs and CBAM embedded emissions calculations. Cradle-to-grave extends through the product's full use phase and end-of-life — required for CSRD ESRS E1 Scope 3 Category 11 (use of sold products) disclosures.

What is an EPD and why do buyers require it?

An Environmental Product Declaration is a third-party verified, standardised declaration of a product's environmental impacts based on an ISO 14040/44 LCA. EPD demand is growing fastest in construction (LEED and BREEAM require EPDs), packaging (EU Packaging Regulation) and electronics. Many EU and North American procurement frameworks require EPDs for product approval.

How does an LCA feed into a Digital Product Passport?

The EU's Digital Product Passport under ESPR requires product carbon footprint data — derived directly from an LCA. For battery DPPs mandatory from 2026, a lifecycle carbon footprint calculation is a core mandatory attribute. An ISO 14040/44-conformant LCA report with third-party critical review is the accepted methodology for populating this attribute.

How much does an LCA cost?

Our LCA engagement starts at €7,500, covering goal and scope definition, primary and secondary LCI dataset, LCIA across 6+ impact categories, an ISO 14044-conformant report, and hotspot analysis with redesign brief. Cradle-to-grave scope starts at €9,500. Typical delivery is 8–12 weeks. A free scoping call confirms the fixed-price quote.
